How SureSmile Works

This advanced form of orthodontics uses innovative technology to shift teeth into alignment using clear, plastic aligners. Custom-made for your unique smile, the trays come as part of a series that follows your smile as it progresses through treatment. You’ll be required to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day and visit our office for regular follow-up appointments with Dr. O. Depending on your case, the average timeframe for treatment completion is 6 months; however, this can vary from patient to patient.
Who SureSmile Can Help

Good news: SureSmile can help patients with all kinds of orthodontic problems – from mild spacing issues to more considerable overcrowding. So, if you are interested in clear aligner treatment, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with us to find out if you’re a candidate! You can also read on to learn more on the topic in the meantime.
Crowded Teeth
Crowded teeth can negatively impact everything from your self-esteem to your oral health. That’s why we recommend exploring your orthodontic treatment options sooner rather than later! With SureSmile, we can guide your teeth and bite into proper alignment with clear braces instead of metal ones.
Gaps Between Teeth
Do you have a noticeable gap between your two front teeth? Maybe you have several smaller spaces throughout your mouth. Either way, SureSmile may be the solution you’ve been looking for! If that’s the case, then the journey to your dream smile will be completely metal-free.
Bite Alignment
Since bite problems, like overbites and crossbites, can lead to chronic jaw pain, TMJ dysfunction, and premature wear, we don’t recommend taking the “wait and see” approach, even if your case is minor. Instead, visit us so we can determine if clear aligner treatment is an option!
The Benefits of SureSmile

Here are a few of the many reasons patients love SureSmile:
- The aligners are basically invisible
- You can remove the trays before eating and drinking
- The average treatment timeline is shorter
- Brushing and flossing are easy
- There are fewer check-in visits
How Much Does SureSmile Cost?

The cost of SureSmile isn’t the same across the board because there are so many factors that need to be considered, including how many aligners need to be made. With that said, you don’t have to worry – we will provide you with an estimate of the cost of your orthodontic treatment at your consultation. We’ll also discuss what to do to avoid treatment plan delays (and the added costs that come with them).
SureSmile Clear Aligners FAQs
Does SureSmile Hurt?
We have good news for our patients in West Jordan who are considering SureSmile: clear aligners are considerably more comfortable than traditional braces. So, if you want to straighten your teeth, but you’re worried about orthodontic treatment hurting, you have nothing to fear!
Important note: When you first get your aligners, it’s normal to feel some soreness from the movement of your teeth. While this is actually good news (it means your orthodontic treatment is working!), we also understand that it can be a bit uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to alleviate any discomfort that arises, like sipping on cool water and taking OTC pain medication as directed.
How Long Does SureSmile Take?
Typically, SureSmile takes between 12 and 18 months. Traditional braces, on the other hand, often take 2-3 years. If you don’t want to wait that long (and you don’t want unwanted attention drawn to your smile in the teeth-straightening process), then don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with our West Jordan dental team. In addition to determining if you’re a good candidate, we’ll provide you with an estimate of your treatment timeline.
Can I Drink Coffee with SureSmile?
You cannot drink coffee while you’re wearing your aligners (yes, even iced coffee). You can, however, enjoy this caffeinated beverage after you take them off. Make sure that you rinse them with clean, cool water and store them in their designated case. That way, they are less likely to develop an unpleasant odor or get misplaced.
Is There Anything I Shouldn’t Eat with SureSmile?
While SureSmile doesn’t come with any dietary restrictions, we do have a few recommendations for our patients. The first is to eat lots of nutrient-dense foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables, to help keep your teeth and gums healthy. The second is to avoid snacks that are loaded with added sugar, are extremely crunchy, or have a sticky consistency, like caramel-filled candies, hard pretzels, and taffy. Not only will this reduce your risk of tooth decay, but it will also lower the chances of you sustaining a serious dental injury, like a crack in your enamel.
What Happens After SureSmile?
During your SureSmile treatment, our goal is to move your teeth and bite into their properly aligned positions. Once we’ve accomplished that, our focus will transition to the next step: keeping them there. This is referred to as the “retention phase,” and it’s important because upwards of 50% of patients experience orthodontic relapse in the years following their time with braces.
After you’ve worked through your entire series of aligners, we will take impressions of your teeth, which we will use to create your custom retainer. We’ll give you specific instructions on when to wear it (usually every night while you sleep) as well as how to take care of it.
