How SureSmile Works

This advanced form of orthodontics uses innovative technology to shift teeth into alignment using clear, plastic aligners. Custom-made for your unique smile, the trays come as part of a series that follows your smile as it progresses through treatment. You’ll be required to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day and visit our office for regular follow-up appointments with Dr. O. Depending on your case, the average timeframe for treatment completion is 6 months; however, this can vary from patient to patient.

Who Can SureSmile Help?

Good news: SureSmile can help patients with all kinds of orthodontic problems – from mild spacing issues to more considerable overcrowding. So, if you are interested in clear aligner treatment, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with us to find out if you’re a candidate! You can also read on to learn more on the topic in the meantime.

Crowded Teeth

Have you been wondering if SureSmile can fix crowded teeth? If so, we have good news: the answer is “yes!” The easiest way to find out if this discreet orthodontic treatment is right for you is by scheduling a consultation at our West Jordan dental office. Then, we can complete a comprehensive oral exam, learn all about your smile goals, and determine if clear aligners are the best way to make your dream smile a reality.

Gaps Between Teeth

Do you have a noticeable gap between your two front teeth? Maybe you have several smaller spaces throughout your mouth. Either way, SureSmile may be the solution you’ve been looking for. If that’s the case, then we will create a custom series of clear aligners to gradually bring your teeth into alignment. Since there aren’t any metal components, the journey to your dream smile will be completely metal-free, too!

Overbite

Overbites can negatively impact everything from your self-esteem and your oral health to your chewing patterns, which is why we recommend exploring your orthodontic treatment options sooner rather than later! If we decide together that SureSmile is the best option for you, then we will create your custom treatment plan as well as your aligners. Before you know it, you’ll have straight teeth, an aligned bite, and an even more beautiful smile!

Underbite

Some patients struggle with the opposite problem: their lower teeth sit in front of their upper ones. If that’s the case for you, then you know just how difficult it can be to enunciate clearly, chew properly, and smile confidently. Fortunately, your treatment options are no longer limited to just metal braces. With SureSmile, we can guide your teeth and bite into proper alignment without any metal at all.

Crossbite

Since bite problems, like crossbites, can lead to chronic jaw pain, TMJ dysfunction, and premature wear, we don’t recommend taking the “wait and see” approach, even if your case is minor. Instead, schedule a consultation with us so we can determine if SureSmile is an option! If we determine that you’re a good candidate for this clear aligner treatment, then there’s a good chance you’ll achieve the desired results in just 12-18 months.

Open Bite

When you bite down, your upper and lower teeth should meet together evenly. If there is a space that’s preventing that from happening, then you may have an open bite. One issue with this bite problem is that the pressure isn’t evenly distributed, which increases your risk of dental damage. So, it’s best to explore your treatment options, like SureSmile, sooner rather than later.

Benefits of SureSmile

SureSmile clear aligners are reliable and versatile, which makes them a great option for patients who are struggling with overcrowding, overbites, and other common orthodontic problems. However, that isn’t the only reason that it continues to be one of the most sought-after treatments! It is widely loved by patients and dentists alike because:

The Aligners Are Basically Invisible

Although effective, metal brackets and wires leave much to be desired in terms of appearance. SureSmile clear aligners, on the other hand, don’t stand out at all. In fact, they blend in seamlessly because they are crafted from smooth plastic, they have a low profile, and they are custom-made to fit the contours of your teeth perfectly. All that to say, even those closest to you may not realize you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

You Can Enjoy All of Your Favorite Foods

Another perk that comes with SureSmile: you don’t have to eliminate any foods from your diet. Just make sure that you always remove your aligners, rinse them with cool water, and place them in their designated case before enjoying any meals or snacks. That way, they don’t accidentally get thrown away or misplaced.

The Average Treatment Time Is Shorter

It’s pretty common for patients to achieve the results they desire in 2-3 years with braces. If you have an important event coming up, like a graduation, then you’ll be happy to hear that the average treatment time with SureSmile is shorter (12-18 months). So, if you schedule an appointment with our team at Salt Lake Smiles within the next few weeks, you could have a considerably straighter smile by this time next year!

It’s Easy to Maintain a Healthy Smile

Since metal brackets and wires are secured in place, patients with traditional braces usually end up buying special oral hygiene products, like interproximal toothbrushes. Since clear aligners are removable, that’s not necessary with SureSmile! In fact, the only thing that will change about your dental care regimen is that you need to start caring for your trays as well.

Important reminder: You shouldn’t use toothpaste, mouthwash, or bleach to clean your aligners! Instead, you should use a damp, soft-bristle toothbrush and clear, mild dishwashing liquid to gently scrub the surface clean.

There Are Fewer Check-In Visits

Whether you recently started a new job, you have a busy semester ahead, or you’re a parent, your calendar may be jam-packed with to-dos. Fortunately, you won’t have to worry about attending monthly, hour-long adjustment appointments with SureSmile. Instead, the progress visits are usually every 6-8 weeks. Plus, if you’re on track with your treatment plan, you should be in and out of our office in 30 minutes or less.

How Much Does SureSmile Cost?

The cost of SureSmile isn’t the same across the board because there are so many factors that need to be considered, including how many aligners need to be made. With that said, you don’t have to worry – we will provide you with an estimate of the cost of your orthodontic treatment at your consultation. We’ll also discuss what to do to avoid treatment plan delays (and the added costs that come with them).

SureSmile Clear Aligners FAQs

Does SureSmile Hurt?

We have good news for our patients in West Jordan who are considering SureSmile: clear aligners are considerably more comfortable than traditional braces. So, if you want to straighten your teeth, but you’re worried about orthodontic treatment hurting, you have nothing to fear!

Important note: When you first get your aligners, it’s normal to feel some soreness from the movement of your teeth. While this is actually good news (it means your orthodontic treatment is working!), we also understand that it can be a bit uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to alleviate any discomfort that arises, like sipping on cool water and taking OTC pain medication as directed.

How Long Does SureSmile Take?

Typically, SureSmile takes between 12 and 18 months. Traditional braces, on the other hand, often take 2-3 years. If you don’t want to wait that long (and you don’t want unwanted attention drawn to your smile in the teeth-straightening process), then don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with our West Jordan dental team. In addition to determining if you’re a good candidate, we’ll provide you with an estimate of your treatment timeline.

Can I Drink Coffee with SureSmile?

You cannot drink coffee while you’re wearing your aligners (yes, even iced coffee). You can, however, enjoy this caffeinated beverage after you take them off. Make sure that you rinse them with clean, cool water and store them in their designated case. That way, they are less likely to develop an unpleasant odor or get misplaced.

Is There Anything I Shouldn’t Eat with SureSmile?

While SureSmile doesn’t come with any dietary restrictions, we do have a few recommendations for our patients. The first is to eat lots of nutrient-dense foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables, to help keep your teeth and gums healthy. The second is to avoid snacks that are loaded with added sugar, are extremely crunchy, or have a sticky consistency, like caramel-filled candies, hard pretzels, and taffy. Not only will this reduce your risk of tooth decay, but it will also lower the chances of you sustaining a serious dental injury, like a crack in your enamel.

What Happens After SureSmile?

During your SureSmile treatment, our goal is to move your teeth and bite into their properly aligned positions. Once we’ve accomplished that, our focus will transition to the next step: keeping them there. This is referred to as the “retention phase,” and it’s important because upwards of 50% of patients experience orthodontic relapse in the years following their time with braces.

After you’ve worked through your entire series of aligners, we will take impressions of your teeth, which we will use to create your custom retainer. We’ll give you specific instructions on when to wear it (usually every night while you sleep) as well as how to take care of it.
